Science Link Workshops:
Are They For You?
By Dr. John M Berardi, Ph.D.
First published at www.johnberardi.com, Mar 28
2006.
Every time I announce a new seminar, I get tons of emails and phone
calls asking more or less the same thing:
“JB, I’ve read all your articles and don’t want
to spend money to hear things I already know. Is the seminar for me?”
Below, I’ll explain what my workshops are all about, giving you
a good idea of who’ll benefit from them and who won’t.
Are the articles enough?
I’ve always considered it a great compliment when people tell
me that they’ve read everything I’ve written. We now have
hundreds of articles available at johnberardi.com, searchable, available
24/7, and best of all, free. It’s a valuable resource for anyone
looking to learn more about human performance and nutrition. And --
did I mention -- it’s free?
But when people approach me and ask whether there’s more to learn,
I know, right from the start, that they fall into one of two groups.
Group #1 assumes that I’ve laid it all on
the line in my articles and there’s nothing more they can learn
from me and my system.
Group #2 assumes that I have some great information
up my sleeve, information that can’t be found in any article
or combination of articles.
Well, guess what: Group #2 is right.
So why would I hold back like that? After all, why don’t I spill
the secrets – in article format – to my loyal readers? Well,
there are a few reasons and most of them have to do with the fact that
articles and the article format have obvious limitations:
1. Articles are short. Articles have length limitations,
and thus only present snippets of information, however valuable those
snippets may be.
2. Articles are disjointed. Articles are not linked
to one another in a logical system. So even though the articles are
parts of a larger system of thought, they do not necessarily make
the larger system (in this case, a systematic approach to perfect
nutrition) easier to understand.
3. Articles can be dated. The articles I wrote 5
years ago do not necessarily reflect my current approach to the topic.
While I try to publish new articles whenever my approach changes substantially,
I simply can’t update the hundreds of articles I’ve written
as often as I’d like.
4. Articles are free. While I give quite a bit of
essential information for free to my readers, I only share my entire
training and nutrition system when I get fully compensated in return.
Now, don’t take this to mean that the articles aren’t valuable.
That statement couldn’t be farther from the truth. Instead, take
it to mean that you can’t learn everything about someone’s
thoughts or ideas by simply reading articles - no matter how many you
read.
How Can You Learn Everything?
Well, understanding the limitations of the article format, we created
our workshop series. Our workshops are designed to show individuals
exactly how to take all the information in our articles, all the pieces
of the puzzle, and place them logically together. Of course, they’re
also designed to add a few additional critical pieces that aren’t
on the web or anywhere else, for that matter.
The advantages of workshops:
1. Workshops are long enough to cover everything you need, at the
level of detail you need. In essence, during a workshop I can share
an entire system of thought and action, not just bits and pieces.
2. Workshops allow me to share the latest technologies and advances
in our training, nutrition and supplementation approaches.
3. Workshops allow you to learn the exact process I use with clients
to get optimal results in the shortest period of time possible. Not
only can I share physiological knowledge, I can share the entire Science
Link System. Once you know this system, you can use it to get the
same results we get with our clients – it’s your choice
as to whether you apply the system to yourself, your friends and loved
ones, your patients, or your clients.
4. Workshops allow you to seek immediate clarification and feedback
on any misunderstandings, questions and concerns you might have. I
get so many emails nowadays, I can’t respond to them all. Attend
a seminar and you get immediate personal attention so that you can
have your personal questions answered and personal challenges solved.
What do I learn?
Though the content has to be adapted to various lengths and formats,
in my workshops I’ll teach you:
- The exact system I use in working with clients.
- How to evaluate clients as we evaluate them.
- How to use the same forms our clients use.
- Why we’ve created these forms the way we have and what we
do with the information once we have it.
- How to design a nutrition program suited to any goal.
- How to apply this system to yourself or any one of your patients
or clients.
Furthermore, you’ll learn:
- How to monitor progress.
- You’ll learn which measurements are useful, which aren’t,
and how to use that information to modify a nutrition program.
- You’ll learn what true individualization is, why it’s
necessary, and how to do it.
And for those science junkies out there, you’ll learn how we
arrived at this system. You’ll see the years of studies, of trial
and error that went into this system. You’ll see the “why”
behind the “how,” and you’ll come to the same conclusion
that I have:
The system I have presented is the simplest and most elegant
solution to an amazingly difficult problem, namely, how to achieve
optimal health, body composition and performance simultaneously.
So who are the seminars for?
Seminars aren’t for everyone. For starters, I require both a
time commitment (an entire weekend, which may necessitate travel for
some of you), as well as a reasonable financial commitment. Those two
factors will eliminate some people right there.
However, if you’ve got some time and a few dollars to invest
in yourself and/or your practice, here’s who the seminars are
for:
- Strength coaches and trainers, a group that stands
to benefit financially from this information. If you feel that you
have a solid grasp of training principles, but are perhaps lacking
in nutrition savvy, this workshop will be a watershed in your professional
development. Learn how to deal with clients, how to get them the results
they’re paying you for, and how to retain them over the long
term.
- Healthcare Professionals, including doctors, chiropractors,
and therapists, who can supplement their current therapies
with one of the most powerful tools at their disposal: proper nutrition.
- Dietitians, some of whom have the good sense to
realize the fundamental flaws in mainstream dietetics and would like
to learn how to get real, rapid results with clients.
- Advanced trainees. Those of you who sense that
there may be more than you find in my articles will love this workshop.
- Those interested in the “why” behind the “how.”
If you love science or are the type that needs to know exactly why
something must be done before doing it (don’t be ashamed, I’m
one of those too), this workshop is definitely for you.
A Unique Opportunity
Here’s the deal. I’m willing to make this information available
to the few who are willing to invest both in me and in themselves.
Understand -- you will not find this system in my articles, my DVDs
or my upcoming books; it is the system behind all of those things. While
I may at some point come out with an all-encompassing book on the topic,
that won’t happen anytime soon.
